(continued)

It was one of the traditions in the past to be name after the town of modern day Mei prefecture (Iga province), this is the historical home of the Ninja, maybe for a short while the Togakure Ryu was based in Iga Ueno?

Takamatsu once said that did not like training in the Togakure Ryu he preferred the Koto Ryu, which he said was "fun". What is now the Godan (5th dan) test in the Bujinkan (Sakkijutsu, the single sword cut from behind). Also appears in the Togakure Makimono (Scrolls), of the era called "Tenmon Jimon", in the section called Happo Hiken (a part of this scroll appears in what was the Bujinkan newsletter "Tetsuzan" vol 1 no 2).

Gingetsu, who was a writer, learnt some Ninjutsu techniques, and history from a Koga Jonin, called tanemra ihachiro. Later he wrote a book called "Ninjutsu Ho Gokui". The techniques within this book are similar to those of the Togakure Ryu.

The main techniques of the Togakure Ryu are: "violence is to be avoided, and Ninpo is Bujutsu". "Sword to be peaceful, and protect country, family, and nature". The techniques and skill of the Togakure Ryu were major influence to the Ninja school in both Iga and Koga regions.

It is said that the some techniques of the Kumogakure Ryu are almost identical to those of the Togakure Ryu. The Senban Shurien (one of the symbols of the school) was originally a metal plate used for lifting nails out of wood. The edge was to raise the nail and the square hole in the middle was then used to completely remove the nail.

This form of Shuriken was less conspicuous when carrying several of these plates, or "Shuriken".
